How might we enable kids with Cerebral Palsy to communicate more fluidly?

Blabber is an innovative AAC device that empowers children with cerebral palsy to communicate freely. Using an intuitive toggle system, it breaks down the 26-letter English alphabet into an 8x2 phonetic shorthand. Inspired by stenography, this approach simplifies typing, making communication faster and more accessible. Compact, affordable, and wheelchair-mountable, Blabber turns thoughts into words, giving every child a voice.

The Problem:

100,000+

Children trapped in Ukranian care facilities

Many of these children face life-threatening challenges, living in under-resourced institutions that lack adequate medical care, rehabilitation services, and proper nutrition. The war has disrupted healthcare services, leaving children without vital therapies or equipment to support their complex needs. Emotional trauma is rampant, as the conflict isolates them from families and communities that could otherwise offer care and support.

30%

Studies estimate that 25%-30% of children with cerebral palsy are non-verbal

Translating to millions of individuals worldwide who could benefit from AAC devices. However, access remains a significant challenge, especially in low-resource settings. AAC technology has proven transformative, allowing individuals to express thoughts, needs, and emotions, fostering independence and reducing frustration. Yet, many still lack access to these tools due to cost, awareness, or infrastructure limitations. This gap underscores the critical need to expand AAC availability to improve the quality of life for non-verbal individuals with cerebral palsy
